ABOUT THIS PAINTING
This is a magnificent original signed oil on encaustic on (on top of board) painting by internationally acclaimed artist LUCIANO SPAZZALI (Italian, 1911-1997), circa 1959.
Best known for his unique naïve style and fanciful compositions, this painting is a superb example of the artist's best work. This rare original oil is entitled “Figure a Tavolino “ and is signed by the artist "Spazzali." It is also signed again and inscribed with the title on the verso. It is in good condition, normal aging with no craquelure, (there is some visible wear on the frame).
ABOUT THIS ARTIST
Luciano Spazzali attended the Academy of Art in Bologna from 1932 to 1937, having, among others, instructors like Morandi and Rossi. In 1946 he moved to Piacenza, where he came into contact with Bots, Gustavo Foppiani, and Harmodius. He began to exhibit in 1951 (the Biennale Internazionale d'Arte, in Genoa; National painting prize the Gulf of La Spezia and Premio Suzzara). He has been the recipient of numerous prizes and awards including the Marzotto Prize in 1953, the Michetti Prize in 1953, 1958 and 1959 and the Four-year Roman in 1965. His work is represented in numerous major public and private collections throughout the United States and Europe.
